The last time I met Desi was in Dublin, we were both there to see Gary Brooker play with the Ringo Starr All Star Band. Desi had come up with Dermot Burns, by now in a wheel chair as a result of MS and I had come with my brother Pop. The four of us were gobsmacked when Gary Brooker came out to see us. Nobody else in the Point Theatre knew who he was, could have been the cleaner! But Desi knew alright. Desi recognised the great songwriter and musician right away. I can still hear his voice talking to Gary and Gary laughing in reply, a lovely moment, all friends in music. This was also the last time I would see Dermot Burns.
